How to Sort Instagram Posts by Date

To sort Instagram posts by date in FeedRama, open a profile in desktop Chrome, choose the posts to collect, and select Oldest. This orders collected posts by their publication dates. It does not jump directly to the first post on the account. For a creator or researcher building a timeline, the collection range matters as much as the sort order.

Try the workflow in Chrome

Use FeedRama on a supported Instagram or TikTok page, and check the available range and actions in your account.

Sort Instagram posts oldest first

  1. Install FeedRama from the Chrome Web Store in desktop Chrome, then reload the Instagram or TikTok tab.
  2. Open the account’s Posts tab. Choose Posts in FeedRama’s Filters to set a post count, or Date for an available recent time window.
  3. Choose Oldest under Sort by, then start the sort. Let collection finish and read any partial-results message.
  4. Open the earliest result and check its date on Instagram. Record the selected range alongside your notes.

For example, sorting the latest 25 posts oldest first puts the earliest of those 25 at the top. It says nothing about post 26 or posts from earlier years. If your goal is the account’s beginning, follow the first Instagram post guide and verify collection coverage.

Date filtering and date sorting answer different questions

GoalSettingWhat the result means
Review a recent campaignDate filter, then OldestA chronology within the chosen recent window
Inspect a fixed samplePosts count, then OldestEarliest collected post first
Find the beginning of a profileWidest available collection, then OldestEarliest retrieved post; check completeness
Build a newest-first spreadsheetExport available dates and sort descendingA separate spreadsheet view of the collected sample

FeedRama’s date filters are named recency windows, not an arbitrary “jump to March 2019” search. The Date tab narrows the sample; Oldest changes its order. Neither restores removed content.

Can you sort Instagram Reels by date?

You can choose Oldest on the Reels tab, but FeedRama disables date-range filtering there. Use a post-count filter instead. Posts with missing or invalid timestamps stay at the end, so open a Reel to verify its publication date before relying on it in a timeline.

If you want the strongest Reels instead of the earliest ones, use the Reels performance workflow. View sorting belongs on Reels; the ordinary Posts grid does not provide the same view-based sort.

Build a timeline you can check later

Keep four fields in your notes: post URL, publication date, collection date, and selected range. Add a fifth field for what changed: product launch, new format, different presenter, or new visual style. This separates the evidence from your interpretation.

For a spreadsheet, export the collected Instagram data to CSV when export is available, then sort its Date column. Leave missing dates unknown. Compare the same content type and collection scope across accounts; a profile’s latest 25 posts may span very different periods.

Available ranges and actions depend on your account. Check current access and pricing and the limits shown in the extension before a large job. A completed sort describes the posts collected in that run; it does not prove that every post ever published was retrieved.

If the dates look wrong

First check whether you selected Posts or Reels and whether you are viewing a recent sample. A pinned post’s position in the native grid is not its publication date. A partial run can also omit older material. Retry a smaller, clearly documented scope if the page stops loading, and avoid calling the earliest visible result the account’s first-ever upload.

Frequently asked questions

Can FeedRama sort someone else’s Instagram posts by date?

It can order collected posts from a supported profile you can access. Open that profile in desktop Chrome, select a collection range, and choose Oldest. The order applies to the retrieved sample, not hidden or unavailable posts.

Can I jump to a specific year?

FeedRama provides post-count choices and named recency windows. It does not provide an arbitrary year-jump search. Export available dates for further filtering, and keep track of whether the collection actually reached the period you need.

Does Oldest find the first post automatically?

No. It sorts the collected sample. The oldest of the latest 25 posts is usually not the account’s first post. You need enough collection coverage and must check whether the run was partial.

Why is Date disabled on Instagram Reels?

FeedRama disables date-range collection on Reels. Choose a post-count scope and use Oldest to order the retrieved posts by available timestamps. Missing or invalid timestamps sort last.

Does this change the profile for other people?

No. FeedRama presents a sorted view in your browser. It does not change the creator’s profile layout or publish changes to their account.
